So Long Judge George Leighton

It is with deep sorrow that the Consulate General of Cape Verde in Boston on behalf of the Government of Cape Verde has the painful duty of informing that the Honorable Judge George Leighton, son of Cape Verde emigrants of Brava, died on Wednesday, June 6th at the age of 105, at the Veterans Hospital in Brockton.

Cape Verde and the United States mourn the death of this man who belonged to the two countries, and embodied the example of work, determination and synthesis between the two cultures.

It is with deep sorrow that the Consulate General of Cape Verde in Boston on behalf of the Government of Cape Verde has the painful duty of informing that the Honorable Judge George Leighton, son of Cape Verde emigrants of Brava, died on Wednesday, June 6th at the age of 105, at the Veterans Hospital in Brockton.

Cape Verde and the United States mourn the death of this man who belonged to the two countries, and embodied the example of work, determination and synthesis between the two cultures.

Bearer of a great judicial career, he became known as a defender of civil rights and received the most prestigious distinctions throughout his life, always maintaining the humility that characterized him.

The Consulate General of Cape Verde in Boston will look for, in concertation with our community, and academic institutions in the United States, a way of paying a tribute up to the dimension of Judge George Leighton preserving his legacy as an inspiration for future generations.
